Musicology and scientific research
Hamdi Makhlouf continue his doctoral studies in music and musicology
at Paris IV - Sorbonne University since October 2004. His
research focuses on the instrumental music practices evolution in
the Arab world, those that are designed for the 'ûd (lute) ; instrument of oriental music
theory. Composition and improvisation in Arabic music, in front of an acculturation fostered by
globalization, has undergone a metamorphosis, both quantitative and
qualitative, of its various musical genders (classical "so-called scholars
", varieties, popular, and so on.). The impact of a such transformation
on the ('ûd) is very remarkable : the identity of this instrument in arabic music meditation, not always clear and confirmed,
has been known since the early 20th century a form rehabilitation
through a musical movement highlighting its instrumental expression.
This question (wonder in other words) main revolves around an emergence of a new style, a new approach of the 'ûd sound through
this expression.
